A fugitive who escaped a halfway house last year but was pursued by police in Salem, New Hampshire, Tuesday night has been captured in Lowell, Massachusetts, authorities say.
Police said Daquhan Cromer, 29, was taken into custody in Lowell by Massachusetts State Police and U.S. marshals. He had been on "escape status" since he fled the Calumet Transitional Housing Unit in Manchester on Dec. 1, 2025.
Police in Salem had said Cromer should be considered armed and dangerous. Officers attempted to capture him at a Salem home, but police say he crashed a car into their cruisers, leading to a short pursuit before he abandoned the car and ran through a swamp to get away.
"Speeds reached an excess of 60-70 miles an hour in a residential neighborhood. Mr. Cromer crashed and abandoned his vehicle a short time later and fled on foot," said Salem, New Hampshire Police Lt. Robert Kirley.
There was a shelter-in-place order for residents within a mile radius of Millville and Taylor Streets in Salem as heavily armed officers with K-9s and drones combed the area for five hours. The order was lifted early Wednesday morning.
Police say while evading officers, Cromer was posting to Facebook, which helped them locate him in Lowell.
"We were aware of his Facebook postings. We were able to do some search warrants and as a result of that investigation, that is what led us to the residence in Lowell," Kirley said.
The Salem Police Department tells WBZ this isn't the first time Cromer has tried to run from police. Back in 2019, he fled from officers when they attempted to arrest him at a motel.
Salem police say Cromer has a history of carrying weapons, which is why they issued a shelter-in-place order Tuesday night.
"Given his dangerousness, his frequency to have weapons on him, and his willingness to take those risks to evade law enforcement, we felt it was necessary to have the response that we did," Kirley said.
Cromer appeared in court Wednesday in Lowell, where prosecutors detailed his criminal history in addition to his assault charges.
"He has done several stints of committed time, specifically in Essex County, with the Haverhill District Court, including on drug distribution, leaving the scene of property damage, negligent operation, larceny of a motor vehicle," a prosecutor said. "He's also done committed time out of Essex County Sheriff's for disturbing a correctional institute and 18 months in the House of Correction for possession of a firearm without a permit."
Cromer is facing several felony charges in addition to the escape warrant.
Salem, New Hampshire, is just over the border of Massachusetts, about 34 miles northwest of Boston.
